DIY Heart Hair Accessory

I love hearts. And GLITTER. And easy DIYs. And Target’s dollar spot.

We made a bunch of these barrettes and hair pins in a snap over the weekend.

hearts collage edit

I bought a package of felt heart stickers (picture 2) from Target ( I could spend all my money in the Dollar Spot). I knew I wanted to do another easy version of My 3 Heart headband post from last year (pic below) and I thought they’d be perfect. PLUS, I didn’t have to cut out any hearts with my shakey hands. I used the same technique to cover the felt hearts with glitter as I did the headband hearts.

Grab some good old school glue (if you use a higher quality white craft glue, you may need to add a touch of water to the mix) and pour into a container with your favorite glitter(picture 4). I used pink, red, and white glitter. Mix it up and paint it onto your heart stickers (picture 5/6). Let dry.

After we played with our cars and some play doh, we came back to our hearts.

DIY HAIR ACCESSORIESI was surprised to find out that the sticky-ness of the stickers was nice and strong. We took the paper off the back and carefully placed the barrette on the sticky side (be mindful of the side of your head you’d like to wear it on). Next, we took a heart that we hadn’t glittered, removed its backing, then placed it on the sticky side of the other heart. Basically, sandwiching the barrette between the two hearts. (Pictures 1 and 2).

You can see in picture 3 that I also used superglue to attach hair pins and a barrette. That was before I realized the stickers were awesome. It worked fine and I recommend using the super glue for the hair pins.

Here we are modeling:

AND we still have a ton of heart stickers left over to play with!
