Okay that was my morning fun. Moving on. I love grilled sandwiches. Really. I remember the first time I grilled a sandwich that didn’t have nasty rubber orange cheese in the middle. It was miraculous and beautiful.
Well that’s a bit much but it was delightful. The first non – american cheese grilled sandwich was CHOCOLATE AND BANANA and I sprinkled it with confectioners’ sugar. Damn. It really was good. Buttery and rich (not great for the waistline but heaven for the tastebuds).
Typically, I use the shit white bread that I buy for my husband because he doesn’t like wheat ?!?!
If I’m doing a savory grilled sammy, I sometimes use mayo instead of butter. Because of its oil content, it crisps the bread slightly differently and slightly better than butter (real butter, kids. Not margarine. I mean, maybe in a pinch, but no. Try to avoid that.)
One of my favorite savory versions uses the shit bread, mayo, mozzarella, shredded chicken, and mild pepper rings. ALSO, little tip: if you sprinkle some parm cheese on the bread post-mayo, it creates a crunchier, nuttier, more flavorful sandwich.
Now, I KNOW that you all have some BRILLIANT ideas for grilled sandwiches. What’s your favorite way to enjoy them?
